In
the world of medicine it is becoming increasingly important to learn
a second language. This program is designed specifically for healthcare
professionals who would like to learn Spanish as a second language,
concentrating on the vocabulary needed in the field of medicine.
Curriculum
Our purpose is to supply our students with medical
vocabulary, common idioms and the conversational Spanish needed
to help them communicate with their Spanish-speaking patients.
NOTE: Our curriculum does not cover highly
specialized medical terminology. It will provide you with the
basic vocabulary, or layman's terms, you need to communicate with
your patients.
During the Medical Spanish tutoring you will focus
on practical situations such as :
Admission/general interview/medical history; Illnesses, allergies,
etc. ; Remedies and prescriptions; Parts of the hospital/specialists;
Parts of the body/organs; Emergencies; Surgery; Other topics depending
on your specialization
Schedule
Our Medical Spanish program is designed
as a complement to our general small-group Spanish courses.
The program is offered through private tutoring 3 to 5 times a week,
1-2 hours per session, and sessions are usually held immediately following
your small-group class in general Spanish. We can also offer
the course as a small-group class for students traveling together.
Students at an intermediate Spanish level or higher
who are not interested in general Spanish instruction may enroll for
our Medical Spanish program without enrolling in a general Spanish
class, if desired.
We strongly recommend that any student below the
intermediate-level of Spanish enroll in our regular small-group Spanish
classes in addition to the Medical Spanish program to improve his
or her general Spanish skills at the same time as learning the specialized
Medical Spanish.
